Chimney Cleaning

Chimney sweeping and inspection is a yearly home care process that needs to be done in order to prevent fires and ensure that your chimney is safe to use, and won't cause any unpleasant smoke or smells in your house. 

We start by sweeping and brushing inside the flue to remove any soot and ash buildup, we remove and vacuum out the ash in the fireplace, and once everything is clean top to bottom, we perform our inspection.  We inspect as soon as we are done sweeping, because we have to make sure everything is clear beforehand. The chimney and fireplace must be clear of soot and other buildup before we can determine if there is any damage to the inside, or in some cases to determine if creosote buildup is present. Creosote is the result of burning green or wet wood, burning trash and other inappropriate materials, wrong flue size, or simply waiting too long to sweep. It usually builds up over several years, and with the heating and cooling of Oklahoma weather, it eventually hardens into a solid flammable material that is much more difficult to remove and may require chemical pre-treatment to soften before being drilled out. This is the nasty stuff you see in this image to the right which can cause unpleasant smells and fires. That picture above this article with a flaming chimney is one example of what could happen with creosote buildup, and is obviously a safety risk.
